i always figure if you are in a country, go do what the locals
do...
especially if you are there for studies.. it can be an education in
itself not to be confused with getting the 'education' of
paper...
when i was in melbourne for 3 years, there were people there who
have never ventured out of the little suburb they were in, never
ate anything other than the really lousy 'asian food' takeout
place...
when their lease on their house ended, they moved to the hostel
where they met a few others.. for the first time in their 2 years
there, they went out with a local-born (my roommates) and ate
something other than McCrap's, Hungry Jacks' (burger king) or that
stupid chinese takeout...
we introduced them to Souvlaki, pasta, pizza, gelato, the works...
australian rules football, rock concerts, having brews at the pub,
sightseeing....
i bet they were kicking themselves for missing out of a lot of
things for 2 years
so, try not to be too caught up with looking for 'rice, asian food'
and whatever.. you'll do well doing what the locals do, eating what
they eat, widening your horizons
